Buenos Aires to Close Roads for New Labruna Bridge Beam Installation

Buenos Aires, February 16 (NA) -- Illia Highway and Cantilo Avenue heading north will be closed to traffic from 10:00 PM this Monday for 12 hours, as eight beams will be installed to complete the central structure of the new Labruna Bridge. As an alternative, all traffic heading north must be diverted via Figueroa Alcorta Avenue or Del Libertador Avenue, according to a report from the City Government accessed by the Argentine News Agency. The Paseo del B northbound will also be cut off at Retiro, and heavy traffic will be diverted to Costanera Avenue to return to Cantilo after the Labruna Bridge entrance. Additionally, Labruna Bridge and Scalabrini Ortiz Bridge, located at Parque Norte, will be closed, so those heading to the Metropolitan Aeropark can arrive via Sarmiento Avenue. These restrictions are part of a major operation to install eight 32.50-meter-long, 50-ton beams over the tracks of the Belgrano Norte railway. This will complete the new Labruna Bridge, following the installation in January of the beams crossing Cantilo and the section crossing Lugones in November of last year, leaving only the central section over the train to be completed. The project being carried out by the company AUSA involves adapting the Labruna Bridge, which will change from having one lane in each direction to two lanes per direction. This will be achieved by modifying the direction of the current bridge, which will become one-way towards Udaondo, and a new similar branch will be added in the opposite direction, towards the river, with two additional lanes, improving the connection between Udaondo, Lugones, and Cantilo. Between both sections, a wide pedestrian walkway of approximately 4 meters and a 2.40-meter bike lane, separated by a curb, will be added. Similarly, new vehicular connections are being created to facilitate access to and from Lugones and Cantilo, linking the various spaces in this port area in a safer way. These spaces are of great importance and attract a large number of residents. These include the River Plate stadium, Ciudad de Buenos Aires Club, Torcuato Di Tella University, Innovation Park, National Center for High Sports Performance (CeNARD), Ciudad Universitaria station of the Belgrano Railway, the Liceo Naval graduates center, Club Universitario de Buenos Aires (CUBA), Ciudad Universitaria de Buenos Aires, the Northern Ecological Reserve, and the Memory Park.
